Double Rainbow

I had the privilege to witness this double rainbow on a road trip in Hawaii. My travel companion and I were so struck by it, we pulled over immediately and started taking pictures. The road was mostly quiet, and the contrast between the rainbow, the misty blue sky and the dry landscape was extraordinary. The gratitude I felt for witnessing this rainbow stayed with me for days, and reminded me of the power of gratitude. Gratitude can be felt in something as expansive as this double rainbow, or as simple as the comfort of a favorite blanket. Checking in with gratitude allows us to shift our focus from our hardships, for a brief moment. Daily gratitude practice has a cumulative effect, allowing more of a positive focus shift. If you would like to try it, you can start a gratitude journal too! You can list three things you are grateful each day, big or small. Here is an example, if you want to get an idea.

  1. Beautiful sunrise this morning

  2. A student that thanked me for my hard work

  3. Really good Acai bowl for breakfast

I keep my journal on my phone, but notebooks work great as well!
